Are you looking to drive traffic to your website?
I have had some great fun helping customers with fun and engaging competitions to help them grow their email list. So let's look at what you need to think about.
What is the purpose of running a competition on social media? On the surface, they can seem like a lot of work - and they are, but they're well worth it. Here are some tips to running an effective competition:
The prize you offer needs to be valuable. Look at it like currency - your customers are transacting with you and their email address is the $$. What you are offering them in return needs to be valuable enough to them to part with their email address, or $$.
Asking for "in 25 words or less" is common - we see it all the time. Unless you are going to use the responses for something - like building buyer personas or enhancing the next range of product you bring into stock, this request is a barrier.
Completing a long winded questionnaire is time-consuming. Be clear in your own mind about your goals. If you are just after email addresses - then just ask for them. If you are trying to determine the gender balance across your customers - ask that. Checking your Facebook insights will help you with this, but if you are running a competition and it is embedded on your website you won't know where the entrants are coming from.
Embedding a competition on your website is our recommendation. Having people on your website is the goal after all.
Be clear and concise - make it easy for people to enter.
You need to make sure your Terms and Conditions are up to speed - it always pays to have your legal department take a look at these.
It is also wise to check the Lotteries and Gambling authorities in your state. The rules vary from State to State, and it always advisable to check.
